IMPORTANCE OF VIZHINJAM PORT FOR NATIONAL SECURITY

Question: Why should Vizhinjam Container Trans-shipment Port be under the control of Indian Navy?

Answer: We have several ports, but the main thing is how much useful they are. Chennai port is man made. Depthless ports like Mumbai, Mangalore, Kolachal, Chennai and Cochin are having only one entrance. If one ship sinks in the shipping channel, the whole port is useless! Ships are most safe when they are in the port, but ships are not made for that!

There are only seven places in the world with more than twenty metre depth near the land. Vizhinjam has twenty-three metre depth without dredging. And it very near to the international shipping channel.

No need of land acquisitions as the port is designed to be constructed two and a half kilometers away from the shore. If Vizhinjam port is realized, it will surely affect ports like Colombo, Dubai, Singapore and two in Malaysia. It is a shame on India for not having a trans-shipment port even after sixty years of independence!(Even Srilanka has one!) The new generation ships fitted with green engine will not pollute the sea.

The tender for the port will be opened on 15th November and the problem is that who would be awarded the tender on BOT basis. If it is awarded to foreign company, it will surely affect national security. What will our defense ‘Tuglak’ do in this matter?

If there will be a simultaneous attack against Indian Naval bases and if they will be able to block the narrow shipping channels, 80% of Indian naval ships will be most safe! They cannot leave the port! Imagine a situation like this, now you will realize the importance of Vizhinjam port. If American galleons anchor here at Vizhinjam with the tender for BOT, what will happen, dear Comrades? What will happen to our nuclear command?
From that defense budget 3000 crore is a meagre sum, our Defence minister is not ready to spend for his own people! For a port which decides the economic and national safety, it is a shame on the nation …begging…it pure treason… Give a chance to the people of India. They can easily realize it, to understand that what our leaders need is VISION!

ONE REQUEST: AT LEAST PLEASE READ VISION 2020 BY KALAM SIR.
